Okay my fifth grade math teacher Mr. Wilson had us read an excerpt from this to explain the base 10 number system. (Yep, you’ll be shocked to know that I was a grade ahead in math WHAT WHAT). I was intrigued and wanted to keep reading, and he embarrassed the hell out of me when he kind of chuckled and said it was inappropriate and that I should check with my mom first. So, here’s to you, Mr. Wilson. I am SO going to read this now that I am a grown up and can read about wobbly bits.God bless The Awl for deconstructing Clan of the Cave Bear, which allows us to remember when our mother gave us a copy for Easter because our mother clearly did not know what kind of book it was (the dirty kind). We were ten.
Um my Mom bought this book for me and then the rest of the series and I was on, like, book 4 when she realized they were a little smutty and took them all away. As someone in the comments section (which, if you read these books, you MUST read) said “It’s so nice to know other people read also these “educational” books during their impressionable youth.”
EDIT: I really need *someone* else out there to tell me they read these books.
One summer at the beach I wasn’t feeling well so my aunt lent me a book she’d bought but never read. I was 12. It turned out to be a classy-ish bodice ripper. My aunt got around to reading the book a month later and immediately called my mom to apologize and check if I’d read the book. I lied and said no.
